Growth Wellbeing Scan

The growth wellbeing scan is an ultrasound scan typically performed around 32 weeks of pregnancy

Some obstetricians recommend offering this scan to all women, while others reserve it for those who have experienced previous

pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, growth restriction, diabetes, stillbirth, or who encounter issues during their current pregnancy.

The growth and wellbeing scan is designed to assess the growth and health of the baby by:

  • Measuring the size of the baby’s head, abdomen, and thigh bone to estimate fetal weight
  • Observing the baby’s movements
  • Examining the position and appearance of the placenta
  • Measuring the amount of amniotic fluid
  • Assessing blood flow to the placenta and baby using color Doppler ultrasound
