Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is a simple, low-risk screening test available to women who are at least 10 weeks pregnant. It involves a blood test that analyses cell-free DNA present in the mother's bloodstream.

At Canberra Fetal Assessment Centre (CFAC) & Capital Specialist Centre Bruce (cscentre.com.au): We use Percept by VCGS—a genome-wide NIPT that screens for conditions across all 23 pairs of chromosomes. Unlike standard NIPT options that only screen for common conditions such as Trisomy 21, Trisomy 18, Trisomy 13, and sex chromosome abnormalities, Percept provides broader screening coverage.

It's important to note that NIPT is a Screening Test, not a diagnostic one.

A
low-risk result is reassuring and reduces the chance of a chromosomal abnormality to approximately 1 in 10,000.

A
high-risk result requires confirmation through invasive testing, which can be arranged through the Canberra Fetal Assessment Centre (CFAC).

Please ensure you complete the VCGS Percept consent form.
