Our Team

The Australian Fetal Assessment Centre (AFAC) offers a comprehensive and specialised obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound service. Our team of experienced doctors and sonographers is dedicated to delivering expert care in maternal and fetal medicine, as well as women's health. Eash ultrasound is conducted to the highest standards, following best practices, and is complemented by thoughtful, informative and sensitive counselling to support every patient on their journey

Dr Ken W.S. Tan

BSc MBBS MTM MRMed FRANCOG DDU

Dr Ken Tan is a compassionate and experienced Obstetrician who is committed to caring for you and your baby. Dr Tan holds a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound from Australian Society of Ultrasound Medicine, and is highly qualified to perform ultrasound assessment for your baby / babies.

Dr Tan has considerable expertise with complex high risk pregnancies (multiple pregnancies, pregnancy complicated with medical condition, fetal anomalies). He also provides a dedicated service assisting Fertility Specialists with detailed ultrasound procedures (saline infusion sonography) to identify treatable causes of infertility. Ken is passionate about educational programs and is keen member of the Asio-Pacific Fetal Medicine community and continues to make contributions to expand knowledge.


He has a keen interest in the future of stem cells in presenting serious diseases. He is hoping to improve his golf handicap in his free time and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son.

Dr Meiri Robertson

MBChB BSc (MedSc Hon) Dip FM

Dr Meiri Robertson is a highly experienced maternal-fetal medicine sonologist, known for her compassionate care and clinical excellence. With over 20 years in Women’s Health and Imaging, Meiri is widely respected by her peers, who often seek her expert opinion for second opinions and complex cases.

Meiri began her medical journey in Cape Town, earning her medical degree and later a postgraduate degree in clinical genetics. To deepen her expertise, she completed the Diploma in Fetal Medicine through the Fetal Medicine Foundation in London. In 2003, she was awarded a Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Canberra Hospital and has proudly called Australia home ever since. Her career highlights include serving as Director of the Fetal Medicine Unit at the Centenary Hospital for Women & Children and lecturing at the Australian National University.

She also contributes to the field as a board member of the Australasian Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine. Meiri's dedication has been recognised by the Australian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine, naming her Volunteer of the Year in 2013 and Sonologist of the Year in 2014. Beyond her professional achievements, Meiri is deeply committed to the wellbeing of her patients and is known for going the extra mile to provide the highest quality care. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Dr Roberto Orefice

B.App Sc.MBBS AHFEA FRANCOG DDU CMFM

Dr Roberto Orefice is a highly experienced obstetrician and Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist, dedicated to providing individualised, evidence-based, and women-centred care. His warm, thoughtful approach is grounded in a deep commitment to supporting women and families through every stage of pregnancy. 


Roberto completed his undergraduate degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney in 2004, before pursuing his medical degree at the Australian National University, graduating in 2011. He completed specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology, followed by subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in both Canberra and Perth. Roberto currently works at the Fetal Medicine Unit at the Centenary Hospital for Women and Children. He also provides private care through the Capital Specialist Centre and participates in shared care through Canberra Antenatal Care. His areas of special interest include preterm birth prevention and the management of preeclampsia.

In addition to his clinical work, Roberto is a lecturer at the Australian National University and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring junior doctors. Outside of medicine, Roberto enjoys quality time with his wife and children, cherishing the balance between his professional and family life.
